We are a family business of explorers with values
Our brief history
Alex began his career in commercial airship operations, developing a passion for complex, multinational projects. His journey took him from managing airships across France, Austria, Italy, Germany, and the USA, to leading muti store management at Majestic Wines, interspersed with a stint as a market stall owner at Camden Lock Market. Inspired by the geospatial industry, Alex acquired a camera system from Nctech, leading to our first client—Sata, a ski resort in Alpe d’Huez, which is now the headquarters of our French operations. This venture kickstarted Skilled Mapping’s success, culminating in our first three comprehensive service contracts in the United Kingdom. Today, Skilled Mapping manages geospatial projects globally for multinational companies in the USA, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and the UK.

A new chapter with Isabelle as CTO
In 2023 Isabelle Bonnet (now Wrigglesworth) joined the company.
Isabelle brought a wealth of machine learning and robotics experience into the business which led us to build our first in-house mobile mapping system. Our initial product is helping us to address climate change and CO2 emissions in homes worldwide. Skilled mapping is currently training an AI model on our data base which is the worlds largest involving 33 million thermal images comprising over 500,000 homes across three different countries.
This mobile mapping system built in-house uses Nvida embarked systems. The early results of which are to be released in September 2024 at our launch event will change the way the British public views heat loss in their home.
Over 15,000 unique mile collected using electric cars
Our first developed in-house thermal mapping system (we have come a long way since)
1,000+ images labeled and an AI model soon to be trained: a refined convolutional neural networks model from a combination of existing ones
33 million thermal images collected in three counties comprising over 500,000 UK homes.
The future
Founded in 2019 by Alex Wrigglesworth and rejuvenated in 2023 with Isabelle Wrigglesworth coming on board, Skilled Mapping remains a privately-held family business.

Isabelle Wrigglesworth
CTO
Isabelle is a French tech entrepreneur. She joined Skilled Mapping to tackle all technological matters, from data to hardware, including AI. She holds prestigious applied mathematics degrees from Ecole Centrale in France and Columbia University in New York, where she first learned and experienced machine learning. She is also an expert of another deep learning topic, Blockchain, which led her to write a book on the topic.
Our Climate Commitment: beyond words, action
Innovating with the use of electric cars
In order to reduce our impact on the planet we have been experimenting conducting large scale captures with electric cars. Our first electric car in our fleet was the electric Renault Megane. We have then used a Renault Zoe for urban capture for thermal imaging. We have done more than 15000 miles with electric cars.
Thermal imaging to reduce carbon emissions from homes
A significant part of CO2 emissions in the Western world come from heating or cooling buildings. And a lot of it is due to poor insulation. In the UK alone it is estimated that 16 million homes lack insulation. The consequence? In the Winter those homes are leaking heat… which can be visible thanks to thermal imaging. By combining thermal imaging and mobile mapping we can tackle the issue at national scale and with the integration of machine learning we are able to provide recommendations on how to reduce this heat loss.
Community engagement
We connect with local and public institutions as well as non profit to organisations to combine efforts to tackle pressing climate change issues. This is why we are proud members of the Sustainability West Midlands with our project CUTHEATLOSS.COM.
